    Default blc durigan mutation

I've looked forward to this bloom a long time. This is the first blooming, and I am very disappointed to see the mutation - i assume that's what it's called-. Interesting that the 2 blooms from one one pbulb are mirror image. Will the blooms next year be like this? or is this just something that happens occasionally?

Probably will be the same. I've seen pelorics with 2 petals that take on characteristics of the lip, but never seen one where only one petal changes like that. May be one-of-a-kind.

That's disappointing, but the fragrance has begun and it's lovely. It makes up for the mutation. It smells like the tradition rose

Rather than being a mutation, this is more likely a developmental accident, simply random or perhaps triggered by an unusual environmental shock very early in bud development, long before you were even aware the plant was going to flower. Your plant may be prone to this condition or similar flower developement issues, but it is unlikely it will always happen. If the flowers were symmetrical and similar in form there would be a better chance it was genetic. The fact that they are more like mirror images makes it more likely it is random.

thanks, that's good to know. I know practically nothing about mutation. I guess I'll find out next year/next bloom. As long as it smells this good I'll be happy
