Hi Margie,
Most likely it is one of three culprits: aphids, mealybugs, or scale. I recommend treating the plant with liquid Sevin. It kills more than 500 insect pests by contact and keeps protecting for up to three months.
Good luck!
Cheers,
BD

Hi All,
Please see the attached pics. I've been trying to research this online with no success. I've sprayed the plant with Neem and with diluted alcohol, but neither solution has worked. The substance is very similar to happy sap, but its crispy, and just too prolific to be this sap. It's spreading to other leaves now but not other plants in my collection. It's in quarantine.
Appreciate your thoughts on how to remediate!
Margie

Thanks for the info. I've done 1 treatment and leaves look a bit upset. We'll see what happens.
How are the leaves looking? I hope better.

The sap is all gone now, though it's left the leaves scarred (small dots where sap was). Not it's growing season, so we'll see how it does this spring. Thanks for the advice and following up!
