Default Ever see a banana bloom??

Just took these pictures of my banana tree, we have had a bumper crop of fruit this year. The first two are of the new bloom and the last is a mature bunch that will be ripe in a couple of weeks. The cane only produces one bunch and them dies back but you get pups that come up all around the parent that will fruit in a couple of years. This grove is probably about 20 years old.

Great shot! Nothing tastes as good a a banana right off the tree. When I've been birding in central america we've picked them off trees as we were hiking.

hmmm... Bananas.... probably my second favourite fruit after Mangos..

interestingly, our Reserve Bank is going to be putting the national interest rate up because our rate of inflation has gone up severely... the reason why? Yep, Bananas... the price of bananas here has skyrocketed! $5.99 a kilo!!!ok, so maybe the price of petrol also helped...

Hey, those are great shots! I love fresh bananas! Too bad Tim they are so expensive for you. We get them for about .49 a lb here.

    Cheers!

Do they have worms and things that attack them like other fruits?

Wow, very nice. That reminds of my childhood. I grew up in a southern part of Chine (adjacent to Vietnam). We grew banana, papaya in our backyard. They are so easy, you just throw the seed in the pile of compost (where we dump our gabage), and they just take care of themselves. Mango trees are lined up on the street for landscaping purpose, but fruit from those trees tasted bitter and sour. The town had very poor connection with the rest of China, so shipping them to the other cities were very costly. These tropical fruit were super cheap, sometimes the farmer had to dump them in the garbage because they could not sell them all.
