We've seen this spider for the past 2 weeks at night only. It makes a
beautiful web nightly, but is gone once the sun comes up.
Tried to find it online & finally found an email for Dr. Rovner who told me this...
It's called the tropical orbweaver, Eriophora ravilla.
Read about it at:

I love nature & all it has to offer, but looking at 100 pages of spider pictures has made me quite nauseous...........
well, it's orange...
Ohhh, spooky! I like spiders as long as they don't climb on me. They help keep the insect population down!
Cheers!

I'm with you BD... nice to look at but too freaky to have around!
Looks a little like a tick. I'm in agreement: I like spiders as long as they are NOT ON ME! Nice pics.
I always think it's amazing that garden spiders take the trouble to weave a new web every night. They are interesting to watch, but I hate walking into a web you didn't see and then thinking the spider might be caught in your hair or something. Yuck!
Luckily this one's web was high enough that I walked under it before realizing it was there, but it was right outside my back door & I didn't see it until I turned around. I would've woke up my neighborhood with my screams if I had walked into that one!!!
How interesting! It looks like a little crab! I wonder if its legs are tender and supple and good with butter.
