Your pic looks a little dark and I can't really tell but it looks harmless to me.

I've had this dendrobium for over two months now, and a few weeks ago I noticed a small brownish spot on top of the largest stalk. I did not pay much attention to it until now, when I realized that it had grown larger.I've always been careful not dropping any water on to the crown, but you know, mistakes may have gone on unnoticed.

So today I scraped a little off, and and the tissue is all dried-up brown and goes away in tiny specks...it's dry rot....I don't know how deep it is. This is crown rot, right?I would like to know how severe the case is, can it be cured (at least stop it from continuing to eat up my poor dend), and if so, how I can control it. The plant is otherwise healthy. Please check the photos I attached.
Thank you,
Lily

Lily, this is off topic, but I want to know, how do you put words, arrows, etc., on a photo?
Thanks,
Liz
Lily, I can't help you either I'm afraid. Just don't know what rot on a dend. looks like.
However, I also want to know the answer to Liz's question.
Liz and Heather, you can use any photo editing software to add text and diagrams etc.
Thank you, Peter! I've been using the same Adobe photo program for years and never investigated -- never even wondered! -- what that big T [for Text, as I've just learned] button did! Boy, do I feel silly...
Liz
I can't figure it out in iphoto. I'll have to look into that.....weird! I'm sure there *must* be a way!
Heather, I've been trying to figure it out, too. In Adobe, it's a function of "layers", where you create different layers of text, lines, whatever on a photo. Try a search for "adding text to photos" and see if that helps. For what it's worth, it's not all that simple to me.
Liz
I copy pasted the picture into the regular old "Paint" program that was orginally installed into the computer. Then I drew arrows and circles using the tools. Very simple, actually.
So the rot is harmless? I certainly hope so...*keeping fingers crossed* that my dend would be fine. I'm the sort of person who worries over the very slight things on my orchids.![]()
Much easier Lily! Thanks!
