    Hi Gin,

I've delved into Lycaste recently and have some good sources of info. Good cultural info will depend on what the parentage is on your plant. What did you get? I can get the species percentages off Orchidwiz and point you to the sub-sections of Lycaste that are appropriate for your guy.

Some sections are semi-deciduous and some are fully deciduous, and it really helps to know that. Watching healthy leaves turn yellow and drop is always freaky. It's a bit less so, if you know to expect it!

Here's the AOS culture sheet. Although it's only useful if you know what type of Lycaste you have...

    http://www.aos.org/aos/uploadedfiles...medlycaste.pdf

Lycaste brevispatha note the spelling is a fully deciduous pink species.

Phil's Orchid World has good info on the genus, sections, species and culture, but the navigation is quite klunky and it's easy to miss stuff. So I'll just list the individual links. Note that this is a New Zealand site, so flip the months if it gets into winter vs. summer season!

    Overview on Lycaste:

    This is about brevispatha:

I can't find what section mattogrossensis note the spelling belongs to, but I've PM'ed Pat Mahon. He's up on Central American species, so I'm figuring he'll know.

I'm including the discussion on these sections, because they've some great reference info:
    http://www.angelfire.com/or3/orchids.../lycframe.html
    http://www.angelfire.com/or3/orchids.../lycframe.html

And general culture for the genus, beyond the specific needs of each section. Lots of good info in this!

Lycaste x mathiasae G.C. Kenn. 1978 if it is in the same group or ?? here is some info. from your link . sounds like it might be evergreen . ???

In the Orchid Digest (April May 1978) George C Kennedy noted that a plant that was thought to be initially a hybrid between locusta and ciliata should now be recognised as a new species - named Lycaste mathiasiae - after its discoverer.

It was originally found by Dr Mildred Mathias in Peru in 1962, its correct identification as a species in its own right requiring considerable study to eliminate the possibility that it may be only a natural hybrid. Kennedy now believes that the available evidence confirms it is a valid species, and it has now been used in breeding (crossed with Lycaste Macama to produce Lycaste Wyuna).

Kennedy describes this species as having pseudobulbs 100 mm tall, by 60 mm x 40 mm clustered together, wrinkled with age. Two-three leaves are produced 450 mm long, 60 mm wide, which persist during flowering. Usually three to many one flowered inflorescences are produced in the spring, with the new growth. Each flower is showy, 8 ^cm wide when fully expanded. Its petals and sepals are pale leaf green, the petals somewhat lighter. The lip is light yellow-green, bearing a prominent lip callus.

I'm not certain, because there's no key, but I believe Jay's section/subsection info is for the above-named plant, not the species that follow.

He does list mattogrossensis as a sometimes var of rossiana, which is in the Xanthanthae subsection - the deciduous yellows. Your other parent belongs to the deciduous pinks. That would make the culture more straight forward.

    Here's the decid yellow stuff:
