Ok, folks... put your thinking caps on and get googling...
here is a Phragmipedium primary cross..
It is a hybrid between a very popular Phragmipedium species and a not so often seen species. Actually, the leaves might be a better indication of the hard to guess parent... notice that there is a definite yellow margin to the leaves...
Maybe a full plant shot will help out... although maybe that doesn't really help...
good luck and have fun...
cheers

One parent is besseae?
Phrag. besseae x Phrag. sargentianum -????? Phragmipedium vittatum X ??Gin
there are three things this cross could be, and that's because there are these three very closely-related species! (which some say are not really distinct). very popular hybrids, and really the ONLY besseae primaries that retain and even enhance that gorgeous red color. (this is of course before we see besseae x kovachii).
I'm gonna guess Phragmipedium besseae x lindleyanum , but it may be a besseae cross with those grouped with to lindleyanum like sargentianum. Maybe im wrong though.
That reminds me i gotta buy one soon...there aren't any in the catalogues here in Canada yet.
Geepers!!!
Well, it didn't take long for Gin to figure it out!!!
This is indeed Phragmipedium Vitabess!
Phrag bessae x vittatum.
Well done Gin... and thanks all for playing![]()
You mean I was right for a change , That is an all time first
Gin
hmm...I've never seen any vittatum hybrids before. the species doesn't look like it belongs in the sargentianum/lindleyanum/kaieteurum complex (which also might have yellow leaf margins) but if that tag is true its hybrid with besseae is almost indistinguishable from those with the other three.
you know, when I first got this plant... the first thing I did was google for images of flowers... and there just wasn't any... so now after having it for a year and it coming into flower... I have nothing to compare it with... so I guess I have to wait till someone else gets one and flowers it too![]()
I just re-googled and looked up images of vittatum and two other sites have the cross vittatum x bessae and they look similar to mine... well, better but the similar
so guess I don't have to worry about the tag.. now to get the two inward bump out of the pouch.. hopefully the next flower is better...
cheers
