Brassavola Nodosa

In nature, Brassavola nodosa is found in many variable conditions... they can be found in the forests in shade, or they can be found outside of the forests on dead trees in full sun.

My personal opinion is that is does best in full sun... in situ and in cultivation, they tend to easily make specimens in full sun. Also, try giving it a dry period around winter. If you want to put in full sun, the plant has to gradually be introduced to more and more sun (unless you have a Hexalectris spicata!)... it can take weeks though...

Anyways, nice picture, it is quite dramatic looking... it looks as if you need to give it more water, those leaves shouldn't be anorexic...

Mine doesnt like too much light... It gets sunburnt really easy, then I take it back to lower light, where I grow my low light Aerangis.

Are you talking about the redish color of the leaves? That is actually a good thing that indicates it is getting enough light. I try to keep mine at about 50% red. It is a small division but is growing tons of new roots right now.

I don' think it does.

Mine takes all the sun I can give it (medium in winter and high outside in the Summer), and it flowers almost on every new growth. It is in flower right now and usually keeps going for the most of the year.

The discoloration is an indication of too much light...

It wont bloom from an olderer pb, just like any other catt allied plant

In a basket with some sphagnum moss large bark and large perlite mix. I let it dry out before watering. It gets misted every am, and the humidity is 40-60%.

That might be because it had high light during it's growth and you have it in the greenhouse during blooming time. nodosa is definately a high light chid. The leaves should show purple and spotting, that is when you know it is getting the correct light. I purchased a division of the 'Minnie Mouse' clone this year. the leaves are only 4" long.

Mine bloomed this past month and them promptly dropped all of it's leaves and looks as though it is gasping it's last breath. I don't know what happened.

I'm with Pat - that leaf looks pretty thirsty. You might want to up the water.
