Some friends gave us a piece that broke off from their main plant about two years ago and we just stuck it in some sphagnum after dipping the broken end in rootone. Keep the sphagnum damp till roots develop (couple of months).
It's still in the same sphagnum (I have to repot it because it's not doing as well as it could) but it just got through blooming.
When I do repot it, I'll probably just put it in some seedling bark and coconut.
The friends who gave it to us have theirs potted in ProMix, stuff that looks a lot like potting soil but isn't; it's a lot lighter and doesn't compact.
I sure wouldn't use regular potting soil either--that would most likely kill the thing....
