There is suggestion of this being a hybrid. Any ideas?

There are only two ideas that come to mind, neither of which are practical, but I'm no expert. The first would be to test the genetics of the plant, and see how it compares to hybrids and species. The other is to self the plant, and if the progeny look similar, it is probably a species, and if the progeny are very different, it is probably a hybrid.
