I don't have one, maybe U should ask lja. I grow my wallisii in very very bright condition with lots of air circulation. I make sure my wallisii stays moist and not constantly wet. They like to be on the dryer side but not bone dry. U should get a walisii next! U don't have any long petalled Phrag species, do U? Well, it's about time, so says the Slipper gods! Hahahaha!!!

I have a Nitidissimum (caudatum x Conchiferum) that basically has the same lineage as Grande. It loves water and went wild in s/h. I have a Paul Eugene Conroy (wallisii x longifolium) that also loves the constant moisture of s/h. I think most Grandes are very forgiving and can be grown moist like your typical phrag, although certain clones are probably more temperamental. But mostly that one shot of longifolium (or whatever other terrestrial species) should be dominant in terms of ease of culture.

So I would try bright and moist first and then adjust if the plant isn't growing like it should...

This has been *sitting* in water, with just the bottom holes, no side holes drilled. It is in a mix of mostly CHC and diatomite. Just don't want it to be shocked coming into my dry house. So if there is anything I should know...humidity was very high in the GH today - but it was also very humid *outside* so maybe slightly skewed to the norm.

So *what* dictates petal length on these? I am sure it is parentage related, but if they are the same (cross)? Will they really keep growing? Seems nice as it is, but...just wonder what would keep one bloom growing as the other is getting ready to just bloom?

The average petal length of the progeny follows the geometric mean--multiply the petal lengths of the two parents and take the square root, and the petal lengths of the progeny should fall around that number. The previous flower will still lengthen petals despite the next flower opening. The long-petalled species may gain 2-3"+ a day for the first week or so, then much more slowly until they come to a near standstill. Hybrids will not lengthen as rapidly.
