Wow, Jeff - it really looks pretty tired. I probably would.

My brother rotted almost all the roots off of this about 5 months ago, i soaked it in rooting hormone (kln) and stuck it is S/H, it hadn't done anything until a couple weeks ago when it started pushing a new leaf and then, about a week or so ago, it started putting out a SPIKE!!
should i go ahead and cut it off?
thanks,
jeff

looks like it could use a good rest . Gin
Could it possibly be a new growth though?
-Pat
You know, Pat may be right. One of mine had suffered and was in sad shape and then appeared to start a spike in about the same area. But the "mitten" kept getting fatter and fatter instead of longer like a spike. And pretty soon I could tell it was a new basal keiki! You should know within a few weeks if you want to hold off on removing it.
following Lynda's advise, i have left the growth alone. the new leaf is coming on nicely, and there is evidence of new roots starting. i can't believe how fast this thing is growing...
to me this looks different than a spike, but i don't have much experience with new spikes.
thanks everyone,
jeff
I agree, it's a little too bulbous for a spike. The plant was clearly stressed. A basal keiki makes a lot of sense. I just don't have any experience with them.
Keep us posted!

...its kind of cute
Hi Jeff,
I am trawling around trying to avoid the fact that if my husband doesn't stop playing his commando computer games soon he may well be in for a real battle cos I am getting hungry!
Anyway, I found this post, and I want to know what happened! Did it turn out to be a new growth or a new spike? Did all end well, ok so it's only 2 months later....
Please tell!
