    Default Rhy. gigantea 'Spot'

Getting ready to go to the Orchid Society meeting today, we wanted to take a couple of plants in for 'judging' and 'show -n- tell'. This is the first one.

Rhy. gigantea 'Spot' (color is better in this photo than the other two)

(Notice how thick those roots are on this one. They are thick but brittle.) This one is more for show and tell.
    Cheers,

Awesome color! Love cascades of flowers. Don't mean to be dumb, but is Rhy. a relative of some sort of the vandas?
Good luck at the orchid society!

Rhynchostylis is in the subfamily Vandoidae, and in the Vandeae tribe. It is a naturally occurring species. Look at Sue's post here for more information.

Also, check out his chart on orchid family here.

This one was really to show and tell, but we did get a second place ribbon. (We beat ourselves with another of our plants. lol.)

Thanks for all the nice comments!

    Cheers,
    BD
