    Default Paph. appletonianum

Here's a first blooming seedling of Paphiopedilum appletonianum. This one has outstanding form and coloration for this species; a very pleasing 'suprise' outcome...

This lithophytic or terrestrial species is a native to Thailand and Laos, found at 450m to 600m elevation.

    Paphiopedilum appletonianum

Alberto, the colors on your photos are gorgeous!

Pat, is appletoniatum, similar when judged to lowii, in that less twisty petals are preferred? Yours are much less twisty than Alberto's photos.

I believe flat is always better in judging in most cases, so that the viewer can get maximized surface area of the bloom from the front view, to experience all the beauty in the colouration on one plane. Pat's bloom is large, flat, and angelic. Bravo.
Hey does it get more twisted as the bloom ages?
