    Question Is this an oncidium?

Hi, sorry to be a pain but I hope someone out there can help. My husband is coveting an orchid owned by his uncle, who has kindly sent us a picture. However, it arrived today too late for me to take to the orchid show at the weekend to try to find out more about it.

Can anyone help me identify it? I was thinking it might be an oncidium, but I have no confidence in my guesses and due to the huge variety in hybrids I am getting extremely confused.

    Thanks in advance....

I can't be positive but it looks like a Colmanara Wildcat. Colmanara is a mix of Milt x Odm x Onc. So you can say it is an oncidium intergenetic.

It's certainly in the Oncidium alliance, Kerry, so don't go so hard on yourself! Ron may have it. It looks like a Wildcat, but some of these hybrids can be very similar. Does it have a tag? If not, that's probably as close as you'll be able to get.

No tag - the orchid was a gift from the dentist to tom's aunt. She'd gone to the dentist for emergency treatment, and begged him not to bruise her face as her daughter was getting married at the weekend. He managed to bruise up her face quite badly, and the orchid was an apology present!

Wish my dentist was that considerate...

Thank you very much for your help!

It's an Odonticidium Wildcat. A mixture of odontoglossum and oncidium. It was a Colmanara, but was reclassified due to a name change of one of the parents.

This orchid is TOO easy to grow..you'll love it..
