It looks like it will be happy in that for a couple of years - nice job!

    Hi McJulie!

Will I always need to water my orchid in the sink, or is this for now after I repotted it? I hate to think I will always need to carry it someplace for watering, but of course I can do that if necessary. Do you water your orchids in the shower when they are flowering too?

I want to do everything the best way that I can to try to have a happy plant...and one that will flower!

    All the best, Shira

You certainly need to find something that works for you.

I always try and give mine some time to soak, so the medium can fully absorb the moisture.

If you don't do that you might need to water more frequently. That why everyone's formula is different. It's really about learning to read the plant's signs, which will tell you what they want.

    wow shira, nice plant !

you've had this plant for 10 years blooming very well, so pretty much you're already the expert in caring for it

    Hii Palito!

It is so different now. I think the plant was previously planted in peat. I only watered once a week, just a little water with fertilizer. Now, I have it in this big pot with bark chips and I have to water differently. But, I'm learning! I let the plant get too overgrown. Now I just hope that it will survive and grow again with nice flowers. But this has given me an interest in growing more orchids. I have been doing a lot of reading and watched a nice video about orchids. I hope to buy a few more orchids to enjoy. What a great hobby growing flowers is...inside the house and outside, where I have lots of roses and perennials.

    Best, Shira

Default Hurrah! I have new growth!

Hurrah! I just noticed my first new shoot coming up today on my orchid. It is a nice big one too. So, I have hopes again for my newly repotted Cattleya.

When I repotted this plant, I planted two smaller sections in small pots, but they had only the cut back pseudobulbs (no green upper growth). Do you think there is any chance that these little plants will send up new growth?

    Thanks again,

    ShiraSongbird
