If you're asking, then you probably are. Phals like to barely dry out between waterings, but not quite. Mine are in clay and sphag (it worked when I had half the plants) and I can't keep up, so they dry out more than they want to. I know it's got to be setting the smaller seedlings back some.
While species can certainly break all rules, I like to fert my Phals fairly regularly (as opposed to my Paphs, where I'm much more conservative.)
