Default Vanilla Planifolia - Smallest seedling ever!

I waited for 20 days (!) for this seedling (appr. 2") to arrive from UK. I've been giving it some TLC and now I realise that this grows pretty fast for an orchid.
Well it's gonna take 2-3 years to bloom so...I'll be in touch

I agree- the vanilla vines in our greenhouse at school grew...well, like vines!! haha That will be a fun orchid to have...you'll have to pollinate it and wait the 9 months to get your very own vanilla bean :-)

Now you're starting to scare me! Should I grow it in a cage?

Maybe it's own greenhouse - if it grows that big then a cage won't hold it. Not if we are talking birdcages!

It'll get its own place when it turns 18 and that's final.

I thought about getting one once, but I have seen posts where some have had these for more than 10 years without a bloom.

Lol, I used to think our vanilla never bloomed too, till one day I noticed the dry flowers. I did a little research and found that vanilla blooms last for a very short period of time. So, in a green house it is easy to miss the blooms. Since that time, we moved our vanilla to a spot near the door. It now grows up the side of the GH and we get to enjoy the short lived blooms.

    Cheers,
    BD
