Hello E1
So recently I bought a bag of wood chips...larger than normal for my bigger Phal's. But after repotting them, now they are drying out far too fast. Before they were sitting in wet medium that was broken down. Now they are dry within 24-36 hours after I water them thoroughly. That can't be good for my Phal's can it? Or is it better for them and I should stop being a worry wart over waterer???
sigh
Connie
p.s where do you find those water absorbing 'rocks'?
Hi Connie,
Orchids in nature dry off within a day. It goes something like this: It rains and the orchids get wet, then the sun comes out and drys them off. The next day, it rains again. And on and on.
If you do not mind watering more often, then no worries. If you want to extend the time between watering, you should probably add in some water holding medium like spag. Smaller coconut also holds water well. Best of luck!
Cheers,
BD
