New Growth Oncidium Question

Hello everyone,
I have a question. All of my orchids are doing great, but I'm curious about my Lava Burst Oncidium and my Twinkle Fragrance fantasy Oncidium. As SOON as the Lava burst's blooming was done it shot out new growths from the old growths. they are now starting to aquire their own roots. I guess my question is, from the time the new growths start, when will they bloom? how will you know if the new growth's psuedobulb is in fact ripe/capable of producing a spike? I know they will swell, but any other indicators?

Hi Chris, Welcome to the community. To answer your question: this year. The new growth will bloom the same year it is produced if the growing conditions are correct. The old growth will never bloom again, but needs to remain with the plant to give the new growth the support it needs. The old p-bulbs will eventually die away.

I wouldn't worry on being able to tell when they are ready to bloom. If you culture them correctly they will bloom on their own timetable. My Twinkle blooms in late winter, like clockwork.
