Default The Minister goes on tour of SF and Houston

So, I will be doing a bit of travelling for work. 10 hour days, seven days a week. But, I was going to mention that I will be in Houston. TX on June 28th to July 2nd, and San Francisco from July 5th to July 12th...so if any orchid pals are interested in directing me on places to go in my spare time, that would be awesome. You just might have to deal with being seen with a gov't employee in public...how embaressing.

    PS: Trouble is staying home

Hey Aaron, I will be visiting my folks in Sonoma the 5 - 7th. Don't know if we can get together, but maybe! I will pm you with some not to be missed places - Have you been to SF before?

If you ever make it to Dallas/Fort Worth, I'll take you out for dinner and we'll go to the Botanic Gardens...

Just keep that in mind...the offer stands for any of my forum buds.

    Default Houston...Boooooo

Well, I'm not headed to Houston this week...but that's ok, from what I understand, it is wicked hot at the moment...SF is on the horizon though. As far as having been to SF before...yes, once....when I was on tour with my college choir years ago...and I loved it...MUNI...sometimes not the most on-time transportation, but VERY easy to follow (especially comepared to the T in Boston). Last time I was there I spent much of my time at the SF MOMA, in the Mission district, and there is some awesome beach at the end of the N. Judah if you pick it up at Powell St. station...I also skulked outside of City Lights books a couple times...but most of the time it was spent singing at the Robert Mondavi vineyards, and various other locals...

I don't know how much time you will have, but try to get to the conservatory of flowers. It is an amazing old building and they have lovely plants. (about 700 orchids). And get to North Beach for some good Italian food. And Chinatown for some chinese. Go to the chinese places on the side streets - where the locals are.

Too much to do in San Francisco to mention. Lots of plant related places to visit both civic and businesses.

One word of caution: DO NOT CALL IT "FRISCO" while you are there!

Of course I wouldn't call it that...I know better...I'd be pretty ticked if everyone referred to my town as "the Ford"!

I heard that there was an impressive collection someplace in Golden Gate part (actually, it was a book that I read that did a big section on the history of importation to the US). Well, I must to the MOMA at some point (I liked it better than the NY one anyway...no offense to the NY collection...which is nice...but I seem to remember a Paul Klee painting with a broom attached to it...I always loved stuff like that...and Dadaism and not just because of the name.

I loved the North end (can't you tell I live close to Boston...or is that only an insiders kind of joke). I passed on the Stinking Rose however...I love garlic, but the group of people was with didn't.

I love the Stinking Rose, but beware the 40 garlic chicken! Those guys aren't messing around! ie, don't try this at home!

I can see what my niece is up to. She's with the Coast Guard out there. I'm no help in Texas!

Hey, why can't we plan fun stuff when you're here at home???
