    Default Epipactis gigantea

    Epipactis gigantea Douglas ex Hooker

Seen on a walk at a local park in Twin Falls. There were quite a few of them growing along several streams created by springs coming out of the side of the cliffs.

First a pic of the flower spike.
    Next the plants in situ.
Last another location where the plants grow near this waterfall.

How cool you were able to find it! I would have been so mesmerized by the beauty of the waterfall, I would probably have missed the orchid. Thanks for sharing it, Steven.

    Cheers,

Actually, our club has known about these orchids for years. We were at our annual club picnic and we were taken to them.

Got to see my first poison ivy too!

LOL! I hope it was truly 'see' and not touch for the poison ivy! That stuff can be bad news for some people.

It is a really nice looking plant too. Much nicer than poison oak or sumac for sure. It is quite lush looking.

Yuck - poison ivy is a nasty weed!

Your Epi, on the other hand is lovely! I'm with Bruce - I'd never have spotted it. Thanks for sharing, Steven!

Idaho actually has quite a list of native orchids (found at the site below). I hope to have time and money to spend looking for more in the future.
