That is so true. Even though I was complaining about watering in these hot summer days, I even get a stress release from the work attached to orchids. There is nothing quite like it.

You know you are an orchid addict when you can't purchase just one plant -- because you have to make the shipping charges "worth it" or some equally "logical reason."

You are also an orchid addict if you purchase said plants and then realize that you don't actually have room for any more.

When you go somewhere, completely unrelated to plants etc, for a totally different reason and are unreasonably disappointed because they don't have any orchids!

You are an orchid addict if -

    1. you suggest to the SO that a holiday would be a great idea to get away from the APEC meeting and you suggest going somewhere you know there will be orchids!

    2. you refuse to go on above said holiday because SO wants to go someplace else.

    3. you chuck a tanty, because you got caught out with the real reason for going on holiday... that being orchid shopping!

    oh.... life is so unfair!

Someone asked me today why I love my orchids so much... the only reasons I could come up with is that they're more difficult to bloom/care for so that when you finally get them to bloom, it's time for celebration... and because they help to relax me.

Anyone else have a better reason?

Another I thought of: at least it isn't drugs!

    I agree Sara

Because they are pretty to look at when in bloom and some of them are oh so intricate, and then there's the excitiment when you get the little buggers to send up a spike for you, and you can watch them transform from a sometimes innocuous looking plant into this exotic visual feast.

    Tim,
are you speaking from personal experience???

Back to knowing when you are addicted...

When you emigrate to a far flung country because orchids are cheaper and they aren't all NoIDs

and When you dream (and I do mean literally here) about having a greenhouse

(although for me personally that's because I also grow fuchsias for my garden and I want somewhere other than my bedroom windowsill to grow on cuttings, store them over winter and general stuff like that...)

When the first thing you do when you get home from work is check on your chids, not your email or family! Judi

LOL! Take them with you! We do! Well, only a dozen or so at the time. Or, vacation near home so you can run home to check on them every other day or so!

More reasons to love orchids: They don't poop diapers, you don't have to teach them to drive, and gardening is healthy for you!

And you don't have to clean their litter boxes... But I couldn't give up my kitties, either.
