My local orchid nursery, Chadwick & Son, has a few dozen Sharry Baby's in bloom in the entry way now. Some have 5 spikes blooming! You're right, the aroma is overwhelming! Why don't you put it inside while it is in bloom to intoxicate yourself everytime you enter?!
Good growing!

Traci- I just saw one at my local crappy nursery that doesn't know how to grow orchids- they had a sale table and there was a small compared to mine but nice size SB, so, I thought of you! I'm sure you'll get one someday. They do get huge though!
That would be cool.Originally Posted by Cinderella
Traci, I picked up a Sharry Baby "Red Fantasy" at boxstore of all places. It's a much smaller plant, has 12 pseudobulbs in a 4 inch pot, with LOTS of room to expand, and the leaves are maybe 8 inches long, and the entire plant stands only a foot high from the bottom of the pot to the top where the leaves bend down. Not sure if this is typical for this plant, but mine at least is clearly a more compact grower.
My mother (who thought it very pretty, BTW!) thought it smelled like raspberry chocolate!Originally Posted by Paphraguy
Ah well, as Jason said, it's all good! (We're probably making Traci hungry again! lol!)
I saw a sharry at HD a long long time ago, but all the PB were totally shrivled up. I only buy off the nonbloom cart from HD. Those seem to survive better for me than their in bloom for some reason. Maybe I'll look and see if they have any in their nonbloom section the next time I stop in there...Originally Posted by JOHNnDC
Why SB is back outside today....it does scent the whole room when indoors! Apparently very tempting scent to others as well... (last pics, I promise!)
Very nice pics of SB and the cat! The fragrance can be very powerful at times and can fill the whole room. I'm glad you like it.
Those flowers are fantastic! SB's are so cool! And the fragrance smells like food ! That one is so huge and healthy!
Only problem is that I don't see any of 'em anywhere around here. Once I saw one in boxstore but it was broken up and in bad shape.
Happy Blooming
