Question When to bring them in from the cold

Here in Northern Virginia it is starting to finally cool down, and I am not sure of the right time to bring my orchids in. The temps will be in the 40-50's during the night. If it is easy I might just bring them on the cooler nights for awhile, and then outside in the morning so they can get the good light.

I know that a few weeks of cool can start the flowering phase, and a few onc. have just started growing little spikes.
The ones out there are mostly cat.'s,den, onc.'s and a phrag. perhaps some of them need to come in but others can stay out?

When do you start to bring in your collections for the year?

Don't let them get below 45 is kind of my golden rule.

I am on the west coast of Florida and we rarely get below that. For the rare times it does, can I just cover them? Or do I need to bring them in the house?

    Connie,

Some can go below 45 and be fine. I *think* in your situation, covering them would be fine. This is assuming you are growing catts, vandas, dendrobiums, and phals. I would not chance leaving them out if it was going to be to far below 45 or if it was an extended period of days.

    Cheers,
    BD
