Default growing sweet potatoes ... not exactly sweet success

Last fall/winter, had a store bought sweet pot. start to sprout. So lopped off the top and planted it in a pot. Used it as a cheap plant for the classroom. Once school let out I planted it in a barrel at a friend's house. The vines really took off. Finally got around to pulling up the tubers. I was really amazed by how many were produced all by one plant. Unfortunately, all the tubers were small -- some not even as long or thick as my little finger. Ah well, was still kind of a fun experiment.

The old saying was if you plant a sweet potato slip in a bushel basket it will fill it up for you but I think that the summers have to be a little longer that what you have in Mich. You did have a nice crop though.

Maybe you will have better luck with them next year.

I've known of many sweet potato plants with the toothpicks and water, but don't think I've ever known anyone who actually got a harvest from one! Cool! Just in time for Thanksgiving. :-)

I guess the big uns you can eat and the little ones you can plant for next season's harvest

I'll be over shortly with a couple of beers, so that should give you enuff time to do sweet potato chips

As long as they're dark beers you're in business, Tim.

Funny you should mention sp chips. That's what I was planning to do with them since they're too small for baking to be really worthwhile.
