Question Catt Flowers - Do I let flowers fall off the stem or cut them off?

    Aloha Everyone!

My 'Lemon Chiffon' flowers were in bloom for 3 weeks, but it finally died gracefully without shame because I have never seen such an awesome orchid. I cut the stem off at the location where it popped out of the leaf, my orchid is unharmed by this -- hopefully it continues to remain healthy and begin to bloom again. Here is my question - What is the general rule when catt flowers finally dies off, do I let it fall off it's stem or do I cut the stem??? I need all the help I can get.

    Thanks-a-bunch,
    NEPHI

I let mine fall all by themselves and then I cut the stem. Some folks also dust stuff on the cut stem to help it dry faster and keep away bacteria....grab your cinnamon off the spice shelf, it works great, dab a small bit on the tip where you cut. That's about it, most would also add to steralize your tools before and after cutting.....i'm not quite that fastidious myself.
    Good Luck

I appreciate your advice ... I will use every bit of it the next time it decides to bloom.

Anytime, glad to help....hopefully we can get you to post some pics of your locale as well as your pretty orchids. Being in Hawaii I'm guessing you get some amazing pics just walking out the front door.

Okay -- if that is Nephi's backyard, I clearly live in teh wrong place! Even if that is walking distance. WOW!

Glad your orchids are doing well as well.

    Aloha Cin, BD, and Sadie!

It's not exactly in my backyard, but somewhat very near to my residence by car. I'm glad you enjoyed the photos.

Your pics reminded me how much I need to visit again. It has been awhile. I have visited the Islands 7 times and love all of them especially Maui. Welcome. Orchid paradise.
