Now that is yellow.
I prefer the red but very nicely grown & photographed.

Hey Peter, I like your yellow bessie - but I'm annoyed at its timing with regards to opening. It is on the list, you know.
Weird question - any fragrance? My Mtn. Maid w/ besseae var. flavum parent is quite strong in scent! Wondered if it was the besseae or the hirtzii.![]()
Nope, no scent! I don't know of any besseae that are fragrant. You also think your Berenice is fragrant, you sure you're not imagining the fragrances? Power of suggestion, perhaps?!
No, I am certainly not imagining this one. It really stinks! I don't really like the scent, and it always makes me wrinkle my nose.
I actually have a very fine sense of smell.
I don't think the hirtzii parent has any scent either, so it is a mystery.
I brought the broken hydrangea (Grrrrr!!!) blooms indoors and they stink! I thought they had no scent but indoors, they really stink, only up close (thank goodness!).
Are you sure you aren't imagining it?I didn't know they had a scent either. Maybe it is really the bessie?

Nope, they are far away from the orchids, so nope, the scent is from the hydrangea blooms and boy they are very messy!Originally Posted by Heather
Thanks! I like both. Here's a pic of my red bess.Originally Posted by uncasteeb

Many phrags seem to have a dusty smell. I have a Paul Eugene Conroy that smells lightly of dirty sock. I have sniffed a grand total of one besseae. No fragrance that I could detect. As I have mentioned before, I think all of the coryos have a spicy/sweet smell. It is not overpowering, but it is more than detectable to me if I stick my nose close to the flowers. It would not surprise me in the least bit if Berenice had that scent.Originally Posted by Paphraguy
