    Default Idea: Propagating Dendrobium

I've heard somewhere about rooting dends this way. I think it consists of cutting the dend stalks into pieces (not sure about exact size). Then take the pieces and stick them into a potting mix. Water, wait, and soon you'll have many new dens.

Has anyone tried this before? Do you think it works easily (or rather "Is it even possible")? Do all dens be rooted this way?

Any info on this topic is welcome.
    Thanks!

Lily, I heard about this too, but am not sure if it really works. It sounds very similar to stem propagation on Phals. There are certain dendrobiums that put out a gazillion keikis, seemingly from every node on the cane; we've got a Spring Dream "Apollon' that does this. I'm just not sure whether it's because the blooms also appear on just about every node, or because of some other reason. It will be keikis, though, that come up through the process, assuming it works: the old cane pieces themselves will not root and start growing.

I haven't heard that one.. I have heard of laying chopped canes on their sides on a bed of sphag to get keikis.

I think it's the same idea--let the ends scab over, get moisture to the pieces and they keiki. Have never tried it though....
