Default Talk to me about Amorphophallus

The internet information is conflicting, the sellers on auction site are hopeless, and it seems that the naming conventions are irregular.

So! Can someone put me onto a good species of Amorphophallus that I can grow with ease in Carmel CA (no frost, nice summers).

    Thanks,

    Mateo

    Hi Mateo,

I grow Amorpophallus Konjac... and from what I've read and experienced, it is the easiest species of the genus to grow.

I purchased the 'tuber' end of autumn and planted it into a free draining sand and mulch mix with a leaf litter mulch. Watered it on planting and not again until I noticed the first shoot which was in spring.

Currently the plant is still growing... I don't know when it will die off again for the winter hybernation though as this is my first season growing it...

I figure seeing as I live in Sydney and you near SF that our climates would be fairly similar. So maybe that's one species you can consider if it is available.

    cheers
    tim

I went ahead and purchased some bulbs. I'll keep everyone updated.
