Are the seed and pollen parents in a specific order in a name? or maybe better put, can you tell by the order in which they appear in a name which is which? i.e.; seed(pod) x pollen, or pollen x seed?
wondering

When you see names in a cross, the seed (pod) parent always comes first, then the pollen parent. Makes it easy to tell what went on. Sometimes it makes no difference in terms of how the progeny turn out, but sometimes the difference can be very striking, with the best progeny appearing when only one of a set of parents is used as the seed parent.

exactly as the man said. in the paph world at least, it is often said that pod parent can influence color to a greater degree than pollen parent (as the chloroplasts and presumably other color-containing plastids are passed on solely from the pod parent).
