    Default vandas in Kew gardens

Last week i visited London and went to Kew Gardens on sunday morning.
Of course I visited the Princess of Wales conservatory with orchids.
Although I have seen bigger collections it was still very nice. Quality of pictures is not so good because took the pictures with my iPhone but still worth to share

Beautiful. I really want to visit Kew Gardens. Btw, I just noticed the Vanda in your second photograph looks very similar to one of mine that basically has no identification. It is called Vanda Exotic Purple, however I suspect that it is not its official name, as there is no breeding information for it. I am currently nursing it back to health, however, aside from that, do you happen to know the name of the Vanda in your photograph by any chance?

    Dear Kate

Unfortunately the Vandas were not tagged
I think the second is a Vanda Gordon Dillon (Vanda Madame Rattana × Vanda Bangkok Blue) cross It might be Sapphire. There are many crosses with subtle color differences The Sapphire has more pink in it, Lea is a lot darker
These are on my wish list
Hope you get yours in flower and look forward to pictures

    Hi Jan,

Thank you for the response. I have re-flowered a Vanda Blue Magic, the one that looks like your second photo was developing a flower spike before it got a very sudden onset of root rot. I am nursing it though, and I believe the swellings on its lower stem may be new roots (I sincerely hope so).

Just out of interest, what is your favourite type of orchid?

Very nice piccies , always mean to go Kew but never got around to it.
Have 1 great spot in the grow room for a vanda but it will have to be vanda sanderiana or nothing , why ? because i know how much effort they take to grow , with a 3 week holiday in Florida next year i have to keep things simple for my plant carers.
Second piccie from bottom looks like vanda sanderiana to me.

    Dear Kate

I like quitte a few but at this moment I focus on paphiopedilum, vanda and coelogyne species
But to be honest I also have quite a few phalaenopsis species, cattleyas, epidendrum, and dendrobiums

    What do you prefer?
