got this one in the late fall, instant gratification in double spike...except nobody told the vanda that and both spikes promptly blasted (vandas are notorious for doing this when shipped). I decided hanging baskets were not conducive to my windowsill due to my inability to water them multiple times daily if needed, so I stuck this one in a large wire basket and dumped s/h pellets in there. it established itself and sent up two new spikes in the dead of winter...here are the first pics...
Registered in 1984, V. Robert's Delight is a highly successful and heavily awarded vanda hybrid that is renowned for producing spectacular heads of enormous and well-shaped flowers. The color is highly variable across this grex, ranging from electric blue through purple and into pink and magenta. The common denominator among the many fine cultivars of this grex is the immense size and flat form of the flowers, which are often affectionately referred to as "dinner plates". The cultivar 'Garnet Beauty' was recognized for this fine shape and deep magenta coloration, and mature plants will reliably produce heads of 5-6 inch flowers. This grex will appreciate typical strap-leaf vanda culture, which consists of high humidity, high light, and high heat! Water and fertilizer should be provided liberally during the growing season, although the media must dry out rapidly to prevent root rot. Although best suited for the greenhouse, or outdoors in warm climates, vandas can tolerate windowsill culture if given plenty of light and water during the summer months.

Beautiful bloom Jason. I hope it was worth the wait for the new spikes and blooms! That is such a rich color.
excellent growing and pretty blooms.
Wow, what a beauty!
Wow...nice one Jason !!!!!
A very impressive orchid , a real beauty.
It's beautiful, Jason.
Very striking! Glad it made up for blasting on you.
It's gorgeous, Jason! But I don't quite understand how it's potted. Does the wire basket sit in a little water? Making a pseudo-S/H setup that allows a lot more air?
Or do you use the pellets as the basket's potting media, and water normally once a day?
Either one is intriguing...would the first case offer any chance of wicking, or does S/H require some slight pressure gradient offered by the walls (albeit perforated) of the vessel?
