It's potted in potting soil and pine bark in a glazed ceramic pot with drainage in the bottom. I've tried it in full sun and the leaf tips burned. Then put it in shade and leaves fell off, then filtered sun and nothing happened. Using the same fertilizer as my orchids get. Help please.!
Actually, I think they thrive on neglect!! I get better blooms when I don't water it too much & I don't remember the last time I fertilized it.

Those water gardens are so cute. I've never seen small ones like that before. Could you tell us a little bit about how you make one? Thanks.

    Thanks
This is what I did, not saying it's right, but so far I like it
You can use anything that holds water. The round one is a huge, plastic flower pot. I put duct tape over the holes on one side, then applied a thick glob of silicone over the holes on the other side... let dry for a few days. Then remove tape & do the same on the other side & let dry. Add some water to the pot to make sure it doesn't leak. Put in some slow release fertilizer (1/3 cup), fill 1/2 way with some dirt (I used some composted cow manure), add 2-3 inches pea gravel, pack it down, then fill with water. I planted a lotus bulb in it, then threw in some water plant bulbs (water lilies, iris) I bought packaged from the big block store. Put in full sun. Word of warning.... water hyacinth grows VERY fast & will overtake the pot quickly. I had to remove all I had & put them in their own pots. They don't grow that quickly in the shaded pot, but I don't know if they'll bloom either... we'll see.
The square one was an old metal tub I had lying around. I just filled it with water, put in some pavers at different heights & added plants. My daughter gave me some papyrus in dirt that I put into a nylon panty bag (cut off the bottom part to make a bag & tie closed with string). I went to some canals around here & got some "weeds" to throw in & also put a little arrowhead plant in a clay pot... set that on some pavers. I had an old tabletop fountain that I didn't use, so I took the pump part, added a piece of copper pipe to the tube & waalaa, the sound of splashing water The circulating water also keeps mosquitos from hatching. I had added water lilies to this one, but they didn't do well in the partial sun, so I put them in the other one.
Now, whether my plants bloom or not is another question & a matter of waiting..... if they do, I'll post pics
Good luck & let me know how you do.......

    Default Water gardens

The water hyacinth started crowding out my lilies, so I bought 2- 19 gal. storage totes & transferred them. They started blooming this week! Each stalk gets 3-4 flowers & I've been getting about 3 stalks a day. Unfortunately, they only last a day

Oh, the water hyacinth is beautiful! Val, you should post a new thread in the water gardening section and show off all of these mini-gardens you have created. You certainly have a green thumb!

    Cheers,
    BD
