    Default The Aluminet goes up

I had the chance this weekend to replace the GH's shade fabric with the aluminet.
    Man this thing is SHINY!

I am still trying to decide if I should cut the aluminet to fit around the vents. I dont want to screw up the fabric by cutting it so I am leaving it in one piece for now. Air flow through the fabric seems ok but I will continue to monitor and adjust if necessary.

I am pleased with the effects in the interior. The GH is brighter inside and light is more evenly distributed. Heat mitigation is just as effective as having the previous two layers of shade fabric and the interior is staying around 10 degrees (F) cooler than the exterior temperatures.

With the brighter light inside the GH, this means that the catts and other high light orchids are no longer competing for the top row of the shelves and hangers.
I'm getting 5000-6000fc (noon) evenly throughout the entire GH interior.

I also noticed that it is now much easier to take pictures as the light levels inside are more even and is not messing up the camera's light scaling.

I reorganized the catts so that they are all in one section of the GH.

This left me even MORE room in the GH lol. From my estimate, about 3/4 of the GH is empty. Once my wife approves the Q4 orchid budget, I can fill it in a little bit more

Tsk tsk tsk... All that empty space...

    More empty shelves

One of the catts in bud. Woohoo!

Looks great John. At least you won't have those pesky government satellites taking pictures of your house. It'll blind them.

Envy.... I'm counting the days until I get can a greenhouse.

Now you'll just have to wrap the house in it so everything matches... and then you can sleep safely without having the satelites monitor and influence your dreams.

That's pretty nifty stuff. I'm with Phyrex on the 'can't wait for my own GH' note.

I do live less than 10 miles from an Air Base so that was my concern initially.
But since they dont do live fire excersizes here I'm not too worried about a stray missile tracking into my GH.

And given that there are several commercial orchards in the area that use Aluminet and they were not bothered by the base authorities, I'm sure my little GH will not be a problem.

Radar operator: "Well, there goes a new blip in the area".
Base Commander: "We have to have a word with those Aluminet folks".

Now... if you really WERE to wrap your house, your kids' play sets and the rest of the yard in the stuff.... they might start to wonder... or target... Maybe a little EM pulse now and then just to mess with you... LOL!

Looks cool! Now you need to purchase some of the alien looking orchids and put in your GH. That way visitors in search of ET will not be disappointed. hehehe...

Glad it is working so well. My advice is to take the cloth down and measure (twice) the location of the vent and then cut it out. Then double stitch along the edge of the cut to keep the material from fraying. Then put it back up on the GH and your vents will be clear to open without air restriction.

    Cheers,
    BD

...now I want to know if that jungle gym is for your kids to play on or if it merely serves as a place to hang your orchids!!!
