    Question Booze them up!

I just recently read an article that suggested using Vodka at 1 tablespoon to 5 gals of water. At that rate I would think nothing would happen anyway. It said it would multiply growths and roots. Even awaken old dormant eyes. Has anyone had experience with this or even heard about it?

Maybe it has something to do with the sugar?

    Cheers,

Haven't heard of vodka but an old friend used to feed his phals with beer added to his water and fertiliser. He was well-known for his fabulous phals;the leaves of some were almost as long as a man's forearm. No kidding! Reminds me of the phals we saw from Vietnam. Many of us started using beer too. I got my supply from the barman at our local country club as I don't drink being allergic to alcohol. He used to collect leftovers from glasses and bottles. I had pretty good results too. This may be due to the enzymes ,,sugars and vitamin B complex in the beer or whatever. Who knows, orchids may just like a tipple now and then!

I wonder if rum would work the same as beer and vodka....I have a large bottle of it that's just sitting and collecting dust in my cabinet (it was for a cake I made). It would definitely be a fun experiment.

Betty should get in on this. I believe she waters with vodka mixed in and has great success. I know I am going to experiment with it.

I sure do, Bill, and the rest of you orchid nuts! Also, I use Superthrive, too. And epsom salts, once every three months...My orchids are growing like crazy! Betty :-)
