Smile The Orchid That Started My Addiction In Spike Again

If not my first non-phal orchid, this is at least one of my first 3 non-phal 'chids. The ones that sparked my passion.

This is an Alcra Pacific Nova 'Okika'. I repotted it out of sphag moss in December of 2013. It has taken to the media very well and has completely inundated the bark mix. It grew this big, new, currently smooth pb and has a ton of roots. Then, there is the spike. 11 viable buds that look the be ready to start opening at any time.

I couldn't wait to show off how well this is growing.

    Thanks everyone!
Being still new to growing orchids, I can't tell you how satisfying it is to see positive results. I have been very lucky that way since getting serious about these things! I have a number of other reblooms in the pipeline, so I think I'm just getting started.

So far I have luck with oncidium and their relatives, paphs, phals, encyclia, dendrobium. Even the catt I almost killed is in spike here at home. It's the first catt spike ever produced by my culture and care. Actually, pretty much everything I have bought. I have learned quickly to do the research and buy what is possible to succeed with in your local environment. My 2 lessons were from the den spectabile (which I do love but never expected a huge plant, I like and buy compact mostly) and is doing well. It has 3 new growths this season. Last season, it only grew one in Hawaii. And my other lesson to do the research was the masd erinacea which like Kim learned too late, not for a warm environment. Mine did ok in the winter time but I haven't been able to keep it cool enough sine mid-spring and it is almost dead. Research!

    I ramble, sorry!

I don't think you ramble Harvey. I was very interested in reading what you wrote.
