Be careful about what you do to rid the pot of them. Being that you are growing on your patio, killing the colony is better than trying to drive them away. They could just relocate to your walls and become an indoor nuisance. The Terro baits that have already been mentioned work for me and they aren't expensive.

I have been battling a nasty scale infestation for a year or more. I get them knocked back, and they gradually return. I am beginning to suspect the ants in my gh. Oddly, this bunch has been exceptionally hardy. They seem to "bathe" in the insecticidal soaps, use the horticultural oil as a lube, and even scoffed at the chemical warfare I tried on them, recently. They have started mining the walls of my greenhouse and seemed uninterested in Terro or any of the bait type traps. On the up side, I haven't seen many roaches this season (hate them ). All this to say, I'd have to agree with the eviction by death route that others have suggested. It may require several paths and a calendar to stay consistent with it.
