Default Orchis & Orphys in bloom

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to share with you these two blooming terrestrial Orchids from the Mediterranean area.

The more colorful one is an "Orchis tridentata" while the other one which shares the same pot is an "Orphys Lutea minor". These will dry up soon and will not be watered till next autumn when they will grow new leaves and eventually bloom the following spring.

Nice, thanks for sharing these, Fadi. Will there be additional blooms before they dry up or is it a one time blooming per-season?

Cheers,
BD

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all exist very nicely in the same box. ...Hmmm? .

Any fragrance at all, Fadi? How long do the blooms typically last?

I really like those, especially the yellow and purple one on the left.

Hi Guys

Thanks for your replies. These will not bloom again till next spring, unfortunately
These follow the weather pattern of my area, meaning no rain for the whole summer, so they have to dry up. If you keep on watering them during the summer, they will rot and ruin. They bloom for about a couple of months, depending on the heat level. They have sort of round roots that look a bit like bulbs. The roots are used to make a drink called salep which originates from Turkey. I just hope I will get some seeds after the blooms so that I can get more of these plants. These need fungus around their roots to grow actually.

Fadi
