    Default Coryhopea Off The Wall

Remember this plant I got at my society's yearly auction back in September of 2007? OFF THE WALL

Anyway I have been watching it really closely for the last three or four days. Well today it finally opened. This thing has been in spike for a month. It has three or four more spikes developing, so hopefully better photos to follow. The blooms are monstrous. I thought the buds looked big a few days ago, but the blooms are huge! The fragrance is sweet and light. Not as strong as wardii, but just as sweet and a bit spicy too.

    Anyway here it is:

Coryhopea Off The Wall (Stanhopea wardii x Coryanthes macrantha)

    First: The plant in bud.

Here is a shot that I stuck my hand into for scale. I have large hands and these buds make my hands look tiny.

And here it is today opened. Notice how much the blooms spread apart since yesterday (photo above).

And finally, here is a photo looking up into the face of the bloom. Man is it fragrant up close!
