    Default Phaiocalanthe Kryptonite

Another gorgeous hybrid is in bloom at the moment, triggered by the winter temperatures. This terrestrial usually blooms with multiple flowers but this time the number is small due to its position in shade and poor feeding.

The inflorescence has already dropped 4 flowers at the base

oh my!!! i have always LOVED these and have even found a few patches of wild ones growing here in taiwan... but i have never seen such a wonderful hybrid! much to my shame i honestly havent looked into the hybrids much, but now im really EXCITED!!! i have a big pot of a couple different ones that i just saw the spikes emerging.... afraid mine might be a little weak as well, been a bit lax on proper feeding too :-0

ooops! i feel really silly, i was thinking about regular old Phaius! i always just lump them together in my head...but still, i just dont see these fabulous hybrids here... it's possible the wild ones i have found are Calanthe and the pot i have, i believe, is a hodgepodge of both...should be interesting to see what comes up!
pardon the momentary lapse of my learnin!
