I am embarrassed to admit. It is true. Hello, my name is Gage. And I am a coffee addict. It has been 4 hours since my last cup of coffee.

TPBM is counting down the days/weeks until the upcoming orchid show.

False - two weeks of being bored? I can't imagine what that would be like. Oh, Jordan, to share with you my calendar...Come and visit and I'll keep you busy! (Be sure and bring your orchids!)

    TPBM is ready for Halloween.

Nope I want to avoid the rush and onslaught of people during this time ... not in this country as Halloween (Nov 1st) is celebrated in a different (supposedly solemn) way where most traditional Filipino families flock to the cemeteries to visit and pay their respects to their dearly beloved ones who have left this earth and not in the "fun" manner most western cultures do . Speaking of which, some Filipino families go way beyond that and even go "camp out" beside the graves complete with tents, sleeping bags, the whole family (including extended relatives and PETS in some cases) with complete portable barbecue set (and/or packaged lunch/dinner), portable TV and/or music system while playing cards and/or "mah-jjong with the family. Some bring coolers with beer, etc .... more like a picnic or party???. .... Some of the wealthy, Filipino-chinese here have "mausoleums" as big as a two-storey house, fully furnished and air-conditioned - complete with a car garage with an old, vintage car parked permanently inside and furnished with a small swimming pool! Only in the Philippines! Some of the local, enterprising tourist agencies here have made this phenomena into a tourist attraction .... and rightly so .... I mean, where can you find a mausoleum anywhere in the world with a permanent mini escalator and/or elevator inside (and a mini swimming pool)???? Hahaha!

But not for me - I simply have my Nov 1st to go for a short visit to my parents resting place to offer a simple prayer or two and leave quietly .... BUT .....

Christmas is in the air and even beating the Haloween spirit! Only in the Philippines will you see and start to feel and hear Christmas songs play over the radio .... even as early as the latter part of September!!! Imagine hearing Christmas songs in September??? And you begin to see some posters and ads for Christmas sales and bargains and some Christmas decor and glitter in some enterprising places??? Only in the Philippines ..... We have this local saying (in the form of a joke) that Christmas season in the Philippines begins at the onset of the "-ber" months (for Septem-BER, Octo-BER ... Decem-BER) ...... Hahaha! And again for the record, we have one, if not the longest, Christmas season officially ending at Epiphany (or locally called "Feast of the Three Kings") .... Hahaha!

Believe it or not! Only in the Philippines!

So in tandem with Philippine culture .... TPBM is ready for Christmas????

Lord, no!!! I am not even thinking about Christmas shopping yet...that won't happen til say, Dec. 20 or so. Not that stores here aren't already starting to push Christmas stuff.

TPBM went blackwater kayaking this past weekend & had a blast!

False. Where did you find enough water in drought-ridden Texas to float a boat? Or is the "blackwater" a euphemism for oil??

TPBM is so happy with the current weather trends.

That's quite a nice tradition, Jojo. There are folks who do take the opportunity to visit the graves of loved ones Nov 1st here as well. But it isn't commonly done.

September?! That's even worse than us. LOL There is the odd station here or there that will start Xmas songs sometime in October but most not until November. But as far as ads & such .... all the stores here are already pushing Xmas.

You're not alone with your season ending officially at Epiphany -- for Orthodox and Catholic faiths Epiphany officially ends the Xmas season.

False. If my current unemploment counts as a "rest" period then I already started that months ago.

TPBM made halushki (a slavic dish consisting of onion, cabbage, potato, -- and optionally noodles -- sauteed in butter) for dinner.

    Patty--

Patty--No, I wasn't in Texas...I was in Florida, on a waterway in the Apalachicola Natl Forest. Blackwater is in creeks and swampy areas where the trees (mostly cypress and tupelo) have dyed the water dark. It was gorgeous!
