Wink Paph New Vietenryanum 'River Valley Orchidworks'

Some members here might recall me posting about the fan that went out in our greenhouse this past summer and how we lost so many orchids due to the extreme heat. Well, this goes to show that orchids are pretty tough. These are paphs that we have grown from tiny nubs in a flask and they have bloomed well for us for a few years now. After the extreme heat they endured during the few hours the fan was out, I thought we lost them and it would take the survivors several years to re-bloom. Well, even though the plants look like they have been terribly abused, three of the 18-20 or so we have bloomed.

These paph blooms are a few weeks old. I was not able to get out and photograph them when they were fresh. I think they still look nice, but the color is fading.

In this photo it is easy to see how horrible the plants are burned. Cannot believe they have come back this well.

    Cheers,

It took more than luck for them to have survived. Someone was watching over them, don't you think Bruce? The blooms are very lovely.

I also remember you speaking of the fan going out and the terrible heat that cooked your orchids. I would think that these blooming survivors will always be favorites no matter how many orchids you collect. Great plant / lovely blooms! AL
