    Default Paph. insigne

This is the first time I've managed to get this to bloom by myself, after having it for over four years. Wooo hooo!

Personally I love the spotting and the white tip on the dorsal. The colour isn't as dark as it was last time but i think that has to do with the lower light levels it recieved while blooming this time, but I'm still extremely pleased with the touches of green.

Congratulations! It's a lovely paph, and seems to be enjoying your care, even if it doesn't bloom as often as you'd like. I have several that bloom only every other year.

It is lovely! And some paphs that are young will only bloom every other year until they get a bit more mature. You are doing fine!

    Cheers,
    BD

Thanks. Now if only I could get my other paphs to bloom.

Diane and BD: It seems to be something with a lot of my orchids that they only bloom every other year. I don't actually mind cos then i appreciate them more when they do bloom. Also, due to the unusual weather, a lot of growers insigne's didn't bloom this year. So I got lucky!

Fren, it actually had another bud that rotted away in the unusual late autumn rains. Broke my heart to rip it out but it prevented the whole growth from dying and I at least still had one bud to fall back on. (Stange weather we've been having here. Every third day is overcast when we shouldn't be seeing a cloud for months)

Steven, I really can't give much advice cos my track record is pretty bad. I will say that it has been lounging outside in the shadehouse since dec and has been on the patio from spring till then. When february came, I started dousing it with bloom boosting fertilizer. Just when I was about to give up i spotted the buds. In the second week of April it came inside cos I felt that it was getting too cold, and there its been ever since. Hope that helps.

And about my first failures: Year one - had way too little light. Year two - was babysat for the summer. Recieved it in autumn with a bud. Year three - have'nt the foggiest idea what went wrong. Year four - this year; bloomed!
