    Default Update!!

So sorry I didn't see your question till now. I've been so busy getting ready to move.

    I just use tap water.

    Update on the phals...

    I lost one

I noticed after several days that one had a leaf turning yellow. I moved it out of that window (East) to the Northern one. I just thought maybe it had been getting hit with direct light in the mornings too strong... Then, I picked it up a couple days later, and all the leaves just fell right off... All had yellowed, and fell off, the base was just deteriorated. So, the one that had zero roots did not come back.

The other one that had one or two aerial roots, is still green, still looks slightly wrinkly, but I am afraid to move the bark at all to see if anything new is happening under there!

    HOWEVER!!!!

The Rescue Phal has beautiful green tips on the roots I can see in the pot and a new root popping off the base AND a NEW LEAF!!!

    Check it out!!! WOOT WOOT!!

Thanks Y'all!!! I've been so stressed out trying to get ready to move, so I have not been as active on the boards, or anything else really. I have 15 years of living to clean/sort/pack up and move by this weekend! I've been steadily working on the house and all my clutter! I am such a pack rat!! We just got approved today for a house so if all goes well, we will be moving over the weekend! Once we get all settled in, I will update on how my rootless and rescue are both doing. I'm not sure which direction my windows are facing in the new place, so I'm hoping it will be all good!

Unfortunately I lost the other of the two babies. I was sad to have to let it go, but as it happened, it was on moving day that I saw the leaves had started turning yellow on it as well, and it was just one more thing I had to let go of. I guess it was just too late when I realized I had gone wrong with them.

I am happy to announce that the rescue Phal is still doing well so far. The new place has only West facing windows in which I can put any plants. I have had to be very vigilant to keep my Phal and my African violets from burning! They get indirect light all day, I keep the blinds totally open until the sun is shining directly in on them. Then I twist the rod on the blinds to shade them. It's all I can do at the moment, until I can get a sheer curtain put in that window. I am hoping that would provide protection, but still be bright enough.

Tomorrow it will be two weeks we've been in the new place and there still seems to be green tips on the new roots. I do see one root through the pot that looks mushy, but the rest that I can see, look great. I am not sure if I need to repot, now that the spike is cut down, and snip that rotten root. Possibly in the same pot, since it doesn't seem to have outgrown the pot yet. Although, the pot is barely able to stand and I have to have it set in a heavy ceramic dish to keep it upright!

Hope to hear from you all soon. Sorry I have been away so long, I have been very, very busy and I still have work to do!

BTW, the new place has a rose bush out front that was very mistreated. Now I am learning how to care for them as well!! LOL

Here you can see the window the Phal is sitting at. I have it on the end now opposite the African Violets now, but you get the idea. That window gets the evening sun for awhile each evening and it gets pretty dang hot in there if the blinds aren't twisted closed a bit.
