I really like it and like also the lighting / tones of the photo.

How did you shoot it? camera/lighting?

    well happy birthday.
Mine is on saturday. there is a Zygopetalum NOID at my food store that is 17$. There I only usually consider the 9.99 stuff like the real nice Onc Twinkle.
wonder if it should be my birthday present or maybe order online a Cymbidium ensifolium or maybe Cym Golden Elf.

well at least today in downstate NY it felt less frigid!

Echoing all the wows! I'm on a Miltassia kick lately, so I'll definitely say, beautiful choice. And happy birthday!

Thanks for your kind words and Birthday wishes. The pictures were shot in my grow area, which is in a window seat in one of my bedrooms. I supplement the light from the window with a bank of four 4' T5 flourescent tubes. (it's very cloudy here in upstate NY) The camera used was 5 megapixel Kodak V550 point-and-shoot model.

Have a Happy Birthday this Saturday! The Zygopetalum sounds like a nice purchase, some of them have wonderful fragrance. (although I don't know if it gets to be too much in the confines of a house)

    thanks

are those T5 5500K? looks like a very nice light for photos - different and more interesting than the usual close up of flowers with a black background! give a glimpse of the location and the context which i always appreciate.

well that NOID Zygo is 16.99 and I wish they had it in the smaller pot for 9.99. I have a Galeopetalum Giant Rhein Harlekin that i got at some soc meeting and i was not too crazy about it but I have to say it is growing vigorously in my conditions with a lot of new healthy leads. Sometimes what you love grows slowly and what you are more indifferent to rewards you with more! Anyway I noticed the Zygo on sale has more upright leaves than the Galeopetalum I have. I like it more probably.
if you Aliceara overgrows and you divide it well send me a PM!
how much light does it need to grow?
did you get your T5 bank at some home improvement store or a a specific gardening store? how much wattage?

The lights I use are two Philips Alto 55 Watt High Output (I believe around 3200K) and two Hydrofarm 55 Watt High Output (which I think is 6400K but I'm not entirely sure. I bought the system at a local hydroponics store for around $175 including bulbs.

I selected this system because I needed something compact. If space is not an issue I believe that T8's are more cost effective.

I think Aliceara's are a cross between Brassia, Oncidium and Miltonia so I will be giving it plenty of light.
