    Default Help!

All of a sudden my ability to type is in overstrike rather than insert mode. In programs such as Microsoft Word, there is an icon on the tool bar that allows you to turn this on/off. Can someone tell me how this works here?

P.S. The spell check didn't work for me this morning either?

Matt, I have never had that happen on here--a switch from insert mode to overstrike. I didn't even think there was a way to do that, since it always seemed locked in insert mode and has never changed for me. You might try going into your UserCP, Edit Options, then scrolling all the way down to the bottom of the page, to Message Editor Interface. Try changing your editor and seeing if that helps.

About the SpellCheck, it seems to be working fine for me here. Was it just not coming up, or was it not spell checking?

Kevin could probably tell you more about the why's and wherefore's of *that*, since he's the one who broke it.

    Matt,

It's a keyboard control that can be extremely frustrating if you don't know how to undo it. It's simple - hit the insert key once. It toggles between insert mode and overwrite mode. You must have bumped it.

Julie, I tried that here before I posted but it stayed in insert mode. Never went into overstrike. Which editor are you using? Basic enhanced, or WYSIWYG?

I tried it first too, and it did what I said. Which editor are you referring to?

That one. There's three options, basic, standard, or Wysiwyg. What does it say on yours--which one's active? That might have something to do with the insert key toggling. I'm using the standard, and the insert key won't toggle between insert and overstrike. If I type something, then put the cursor in the middle of the word, I always stay in Insert mode no matter how many times I press the insert key. I know what you mean about that working in Word, I just can't get it to do it here.

I'm using enhanced also (full WYSIWYG). And it's toggling between insert and overstrike. Do you have the standard enhanced keyboard with the set of keys between the letters and the number pad? I believe the 'Insert key' toggle is at an OS level. It behaves predictably for me in all the software I can think of.

Weird yours doesn behave the same.

Yeah, standard keyboard, but I'm just in standard mode in my USerCP, not enhanced wysiwyg. Let me try going to that and seeing if anything's different...

    Ok, enhanced wysiwyg interface now....

No changes for me, still always stay in insert mode.

    Oh well.

If Matt's using the enhanced wysiwyg editor, it's probably exacly what you said then.

Matt, you must have just bumped the insert key.

    Why doesn't MY toggle work.

    Kevin probly broke that, too.

I have no idea what anyone just said. (except the insert key thingie Julie mentioned.) At any rate, I logged off, then back on, and it was back to normal. It's a mystery, cause I didn't try any of your suggestions.
