Leopard Prince Sogo Sexy Pink

Well I have mentioned on another post about how I was forced by my mother to go to the orchid show again. And people kept thrusting plants at me.... my money was haemorraghing out of my purse... it was carnage.

So here is the first of the phals I bought.



It's name on the label is Dtps Sexy Pink (Syn. Leopard Prince 'Sogo') (Dtps Sun Prince x Phal Ho's French Fantasia). I think that as the original registrar of this cross was Sogo, that the clone name is Sexy Pink. Have no clue about the Syn. bit - anyone want to explain that bit?



The colouring is a bit darker than that found in the photos posted by Uncasteeb of this cross in 2006, but I really like spots and pink and purple, so all in all it's a good mixture for me!

this was the second of my peloric phals. I don't like all pelorisms, (is that a word?) but I do like these...



It's labelled Phal mini Dog 'Orchis-01', but I haven't been able to verify it's identity on the internet. It's really cute though, the flowers are only about 1 1/2 inches across.

This is the phal I appeared to come back with yesterday by accident, having been gesticulating rather inaccurately at the vendor. Very nice lady, but possibly not quite understanding my hand signals!

It's still nice though, although I am not always a big fan of the harlequin phals, this is quite a mixture of splash and harlequin. The poor baby is confused!

I bought two species phals at the show, there were a lot more than that and I wanted to buy quite a few, but I thought I would stick with just a couple and see how I go. I might be good with the hybrids, but the species could be a bit more tricky. By no means am I am speciesaphile (or snob) but I have really wanted to try seeing how i do with them, as they are so interesting.

The first species I bought was a violacea, which is a bit smaller than blooming size at the moment, so I am hoping I will manage to earn those blooms. The other, pictured below, is a lueddemanniana, and it's quite a tall plant with very long flexible spikes.



This one has three spikes on the plant, and the more recently opened blooms are quite waxy in appearance with a vibrancy to the colour that has seemed to have faded slightly in the older blooms.





I was quite surprised this time round at the amount of species phals on sale. Last year they had none, and there was only one primary hybrid on show for the pricey sum of about £60 (Penang Girl). This year there was also manii, parishii, lobii, gigantea, schilleriana and some others I can't remember the names of.... If I had an unlimited amount of money, and a hell of a lot more space, I would quite possibly have come back with quite a few more! Just as well, otherwise Mr Kerry would have had more to say than "what colour is this one meant to be?" (quite restrained for him!)

My last purchase was a Den Kingianum Berry 'Oda', as it seems that everyone and their dog on the forum has a kingianum, and I didn't want to feel left out. For some reason, I decided not to pick the one with all the buds waiting to open, but the one with a nicely developed keiki growing on it. I do like getting my money's worth out of them!

I don't have a kingianum either and Kerry you were a naughty,naughty girl. Tom must be having a fit. Has he run out of artillery shells to put them on? They are all lovely, good job Kerry.

Interesting color pattern on the first & third orchid. The peloric one has almost a 'feathery' appearance to me. I miss my lued. -- had a very small keiki that I succeeded in blooming but it died before blooming again.

You wouldn't have been alone if you were still Den Kingianum-less, Kerry. I still am and don't expect to change it. I like the flowers but the plant gets too big for me.

Kerry, your phals are gorgeous! They are all very choice plants and should make the owner proud! Money well spent, but next time, you could ask your mum to share the burden, heheheheeeee ... especially since she is the one who made you go!!!

Great pelorics..

I've been eyeing for some phal species also. Prolly gotta get use to the hybrids first. I don't want to kill any species yet..
