Default The bigger they are . . .

Yeah--unfortunately the harder they fall. This phal is 8 or 9 years old and lives in a big 10" pot. But, he had a bit of a bad day today.

We moved all the orchids out of the greenhouse yesterday evening so we could stain the concrete floor. They were all sitting in the breakfast nook, waiting for the floor to dry. I was moving one of the big rolling racks and bumped into the stand where my oldest and favorite phal was sitting. It fell off the stand, onto its top, breaking the spike and really bruising the leaves. The big clay pot shattered. I just stood there frozen ...

I think the plant will be okay, but the leaves have some permanent ugly spots. I cannot believe I knocked it over--argh!

been there, done that. Just recently broke off the youngest leaf on my biggest phal. Broke all the way down at the axis. Don't know if it will recover.

I dump orchids off on their tops all the time. I will be reaching for one orchid and somehow manage to mangle or crush another. It especially hurts when they are one of your favorites. Sorry.

    cheers,

Urgh, been there done that, it's always rotten when it happens. You have my sympathy!

I too am waiting to see what's going to happen to the phal which lost its newest leaf along with the rest of the crown which got ripped out when I dropped it. It only just recovered from root rot too, poor thing. It's not valuable but it was my very first orchid so I'm kinda attached to it.

Seems that misfortune struck in more places than one... I decided to open the window by my vuyl. and cymb. so they could get some fresh air, and came back into the room after a big gust of wind to find all my window plants sprawling on the floor... BOO! I can sympathize - I hope your phal recovers well!

    Look on the bright side:
It is just some mysterious way of letting you know that it is time to repot the plant

Thanks for the sympathy all. I just couldn't believe I was that clumsy--so much for green thumbs, I'm all thumbs apparently. At least I know I'm not alone. I hope all of your chids recover as well.
