V. Robert's Delight 'Garnet Beauty' FCC/AOS
unlike some of my paphs, which grow and never bloom, this one is earning its room & board! twice a year on a windowsill, can't ask for much more from a standard vanda!
Registered in 1984, V. Robert's Delight is a highly-successful and heavily-awarded vanda hybrid that is renowned for producing spectacular heads of enormous well-shaped flowers. The color is extremely variable across this grex, ranging from electric blue through purple and into pink and magenta. The common denominator among the many fine cultivars is the immense size and flat form of the flowers, which are often affectionately referred to as "dinner plates". The cultivar 'Garnet Beauty' was recognized for this fine shape and deep magenta coloration, and mature plants will reliably produce heads of 5-6 inch flowers. This grex will appreciate typical strap-leaf vanda culture, which consists of high humidity, high light, and high heat! Water and fertilizer should be provided liberally during the growing season, although the media must dry out rapidly to prevent root rot. Although best suited for the greenhouse, or outdoors in warm climates, vandas can tolerate windowsill culture if given plenty of light and water during the summer months.
